Fetish fashion, from vinyl skirts to latex catsuits, is typically restrained to the bedroom or fetish clubs where like minded people gather to talk, show off, and arouse their partners with a public display of kinkiness.

However, it seems to me that more and more people are venturing out into the mainstream with fetish fabrics or fetish attire.  I suspect this is due to the desensitizing of latex and vinyl by mainstream media such as MTV and Hollywood.  Latex leggings have been all the rage and talked up by magazines such as Vogue.

I'm sure there are many people, fond of such items, who would love to see latex and vinyl go more mainstream.  However, there are others who feel like they belong to a subculture, an exclusive group, and do not want to see outsiders dilute their feelings of belonging by encroaching on their territory.
